Are Sweepstakes Casinos Legal in Georgia?

Short answer: yes, as far as current law goes. No Georgia statute names sweepstakes casinos, no bill has specifically targeted them, and the one lawsuit that came close was dismissed on a technicality rather than deciding whether the model is actually legal.

No law, and the nearby bills weren't about this

Georgia has no licensing regime or statute addressing sweepstakes-style, dual-currency platforms. The gambling-related bills that have moved in recent sessions were aimed at something else entirely: HB 910 would have legalized mobile sports betting through the Georgia Lottery (it didn't pass), and SR 131 proposed a constitutional amendment covering sports betting and casinos more broadly (it cleared the Senate but not the House). Neither bill mentioned sweepstakes casinos, and no replacement bill targeting the model specifically has been introduced.

The one lawsuit didn't test the model itself

A Georgia resident did sue VGW (the operator behind Chumba Casino, among other brands) over its sweepstakes-casino operations - but the case was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds, not on the merits of whether the model violates Georgia law. That leaves the core legal question genuinely untested in Georgia courts, for whatever that's worth either way.

What this means for you

Sweepstakes casinos currently operate in Georgia without a specific restriction, and there's no pending bill that would change that in the near term. That said, "no law yet" isn't the same as a permanent guarantee - several other states added sweepstakes-specific statutes in 2025 and 2026 with little advance warning, so it's worth checking back here periodically rather than assuming nothing will change.
