VGW Launches Chumba Spins, a Real-Money Horse-Racing Wagering App
VGW launched Chumba Spins, a real-money horse-racing wagering app, in closed beta across Oklahoma, California, and Delaware in late October 2026.
VGW, the operator behind Chumba Casino, quietly launched a new real-money product called Chumba Spins in closed beta around October 29, 2026, as a separate site from Chumba Casino itself. Unlike Chumba's Gold Coins / Sweeps Coins model, Chumba Spins runs on advance deposit wagering (ADW) - the same licensed pari-mutuel framework used for legal horse-race betting - and its initial terms authorize it to operate in Oklahoma, California, and Delaware. VGW emailed the product to Chumba's Oklahoma players shortly before the state's sweepstakes-casino ban took effect November 1; access elsewhere is currently invite- or waitlist-only.
The mechanics: a player's real-money stake is placed on the outcome of a live or historical horse race, with a slot-style game animation layered on top to reveal the result. Game Play Network, Inc. (GPN), a licensed ADW operator, is named in Chumba Spins' terms as the entity actually running the wagering, with VGW providing branding and marketing. The product takes real-money deposits and pays out real cash directly - there's no redeemable Sweeps Coins step - and its terms set a 21-plus age limit.
Attorneys tracking the sweepstakes-casino crackdown see ADW as a potentially sturdier legal foundation than the sweeps model itself, since it doesn't need to argue the product isn't gambling - it leans instead on the federal Interstate Horseracing Act, which a federal judge upheld in January 2026 against a legal challenge Churchill Downs brought over Michigan's gaming regulator. That protection isn't settled, though: other attorneys have warned that using horse-race results mainly as a randomizer for a casino-style slot game, rather than as a genuine wagering product, could undercut that same legal theory, and Florida's attorney general - already suing VGW and Stake over the sweeps model - has argued that "if it looks like a casino, takes real money like a casino, and pays out like a casino, it is a casino."
Chumba Casino is listed on this site without an affiliate relationship, and we don't have one with Chumba Spins either. Worth watching either way: if an ADW-based real-money product holds up legally where the sweeps model increasingly hasn't, expect other operators facing their own state bans to look at the same playbook.
